Based in New York City, New York, the New York Rangers play in Atlantic division of the Eastern Conference. The Rangers began playing in 1926 and right from the start the Rangers were pretty successful. In their first year of play, the Rangers claimed American Division title and the following season they swept away the Montreal Maroons to win their first ever Stanley Cup.
The Rangers remained quite consistent with their performance; they posted all winning seasons for a decade and claimed their second Stanley Cup in 1932 – 33 by defeating the Toronto. But this was not all, there was more success to follow, the Rangers won their third NHL championship in 1940.

After such remarkable performance in the early years the Rangers magic began to fade, the team could not even manage the playoffs appearance for the five consecutive seasons. The team slowed slight improvement ion the terms of performance in the decade of 60’s.

The Rangers rejuvenated in the decade of 80’s and remained competitive till the mid 90’s. They nearly made to all the playoffs, just missing two. The Rangers again struggled in the later half of the nineties. NHL season 2005- 06, the New York Rangers managed to reach the Conference quarterfinals but eventually lost to the Devils.
